The Oprah article titled: Why Women Are Leaving Men for Other Women covers a lot of the recent tabloid lesbian ‘phenomenon’. Um, I think that lesbian is garnering more ratings and readership, so everybody’s doin’ it so to speak. There aren’t really any statistics, but wtf, it’s all good as they used to say in the old days. I did find an interesting quote in the article (my emphasis) – Feminist philosopher Susan Bordo, PhD, a professor of English and gender and women’s studies at the University of Kentucky and author of Unbearable Weight: Feminism, Western Culture, and the Body:
“When a taboo is lifted or diminished, it’s going to leave people freer to pursue things. So it makes sense that we would see women, for all sorts of reasons, walking through that door now that the culture has cracked it open. Of course, we shouldn’t imagine that we’re living in a world where all sexual choices are possible. Just look at the cast of The L Word and it’s clear that only a certain kind of lesbian—slim and elegant or butch in just the right androgynous way—is acceptable to mainstream culture.“

I fail to see why it’s a phenomenon when there were no real supplied facts..
That’s why I said ‘phenomenon’ – which is to indicate that women leaving men for other women is hardly a phenomenon, and that Oprah and others simply use the popular subject of lesbianism to get ratings.
The real point of the post (besides dubunking the phenomenon) is in the quote that basically says it’s becoming acceptable to be the particular type of lgbt person that is depicted / stereotyped in a positive way on television and in the media – the rest of lgbt folk are still culturally rejected as usual.
more and more women today are lesbians. they have the desire to be with women today for the love making that the man cannot provide today. it is very sickening to me to say that but it is very true. plus they been in very abusive relationships years ago. this is the reason why a lot of good men like me are having a very rough time finding a straight woman today.
that is all there good for,breaking a good mans heart just to be with another woman. this happened to a friend that i know.
