Driving Miss Bea

I’m glad I came across this post on Bea Arthur, because I keep running into all these people’s blog posts who seem to be way too young to have watched her shows and/or that are way too sad to see her go. What’s with this viral grief thing?? Are people in v/r really that hard up to prove they’re “having feelings of a human nature?”

Matt The Unabashed Queer on the other hand, has an engaging story that probably says more about Bea Arthur than all the news stories, grief-blogs and epitaphs that are floating in the digital ocean at the moment.

I know I’ve cruised Unabashed Matt’s site before :) but it must have been quicker than a bath house love story, because I don’t recall. Anyway, I do like the style and really thought, “Wow” when I read  the comment about Bea putting things where they don’t belong:

One of my favorite things she did all day was pull a tissue out of her purse and slip it into her sleeve before she went to do the radio interview. I just like the idea of putting things where they don’t belong. A tissue in a sleeve. A dick in an ass.

Sorry to steal that bit of your fire Matt, but I’m sure if it’s a real Bea fan reading this, they’ll be over to your place shortly, reading the full monty. >>> Unabashedly Queer Lifetime Achievement: Bea Arthur 1922-2009

Oh, and Matthew,  I admire that you resisted the Driving Miss Daisy comp, it’s so obvious, but me?

There I unabashedly go again.

  1. I’m a straight White male (yeah, and in THIS society!) with a deep, growling voice and an overbearing manner. You can’t tell me that Bea Arthur, with that height reaching toward mine and that voice almost as deep as mine was born a female. Not a chance. Christine Jorgensen wasn’t the only re-build out there. Yukk.
