Is ‘Tranny’ Dead In The Water, Or A Sweet Treat That Can Help You Lose Ten Pounds Of Your Credibility In As Little As One Week?

I want to point out some examples of the kind of fallout that occurs when people like Christian Siriano take a word and defame* with their context. My other article on this subject pointed out the reaction, mostly negative via tranny-bashing linguistics by gays and straights alike. This time I’ll use a few media examples (check the bottom of the post).

*Not technically defamation, you say? Here’s the legal definition, which indicates that Siriano definitely defamed  the word tranny and yes, perhaps even the good name of trannies everywhere.

Any intentional false communication, either written or spoken, that harms a person’s reputation; decreases the respect, regard, or confidence in which a person is held; or induces disparaging, hostile, or disagreeable opinions or feelings against a person.

Defamation may be a criminal or civil charge. It encompasses both written statements, known as libel, and spoken statements, called slander.

My point is not whether we should reclaim the word tranny, or who should be allowed to use it, but rather that it is perhaps already a word that has turned on itself, and is in a downward spiral to it’s eventual death. Even the websites and heaven forbid, companies, that employ such words before they were ever claimed by the media out of context, become pawns in the game of their own demise. There has to be dozens of bonafide, established websites which have the word tranny in their name. Will they continue on or change their names? Who knows.

I say we could take the word and reclaim it with a more powerful use. It’s a perfect chance for ‘piggyback marketing’ and a campaign to truly reclaim it in the media, could be a big fat ‘touche’ for the trans movement. Of course that would take the kind of money that say, the HRC spends on a dinner.

What dogs hear.

What dogs hear.

By the way, I know some naysayer will come along and trash my post, saying, “Oh, how could you say such a thing. “Blah, blah,  Brielle. Blah, blah blah, Brielle.”

Here’s another good example of a word being wrestled to the ground and pwned.

It’s the vitamin-fortified chocolate, butterscotch or caramel candy that was taken with a cup of hot tea before meals as an appetite suppressant. They even claimed customers could lose ten pounds in a week.

The product name: Ayds.

Aydes

Aydes

AIDS (the disease) was first reported in the United States in 1981, only one year before this commercial spot was produced, Radio Commercial for Ayds and just a short time before the acronym for the disease would replace the brand name of the diet candy in popular vernacular.
